My interest in serving on the SZS Board is family. As a child, I remember coming to the Saskatoon Forestry Farm and Zoo with my parents and grandparents. Now that I have my own family, we are still visiting and developing great memories at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm & Zoo and education has been central to that enjoyment. Professionally, my background is in community and economic development and I hope to bring my skillset to support the amazing work of the SZS. Hope to see you at one of our programs.

I was born and raised in Saskatoon and with so many fond memories as a child at the Forestry Farm, I felt it was important to continue to provide those experiences for future generations. I’m proud to be a part of this important educational component of the zoo and the amazing people who make it happen.

As my wife would say, I am a lame, boring accountant. It only seems natural that I fill the role of treasurer with the Saskatoon Zoo Society. I attended my first meeting in April of 2017 and was welcomed to the board shortly after. I’ve always been an avid lover of the outdoors and want to share that passion with my young boy in the years to come. For that to happen, we need proper conservation. However, proper conservation starts with proper education. That’s what the SZS is all about and we have amazing educators with an insane amount of knowledge and experience in this field. I’m looking forward to the day when my son will be old enough to attend many of the great programs.

I’m an English as an additional language teacher. I value the importance of education and conservation. Our family has been members of the Saskatoon Zoo Society for many years, and along with The Young Naturalist Program it has been very important to our family. I believe the Saskatoon Zoo Society has an important role to play working with the people of Saskatchewan to continue providing opportunities to appreciate and respect the world we live in.

As an animal lover all my life I have always been attracted by the zoo experience despite the less than stellar conditions in many of them. When the opportunity arose in the ‘70s to be involved with our fledgling zoo here in Saskatoon we became family members and then in subsequent years a Board member. I spoke to all sorts of groups about animals and about zoos and their importance in conservation and education until we were at last permitted to do it within the zoo itself. Hundreds of tours and hours and hours of meetings later, and I am still involved and still passionate about zoos as leaders in education and conservation.

I initially joined the Saskatoon Zoo Society (SZS) Board to give back to the city, learn more about SZS, and to meet new people. We are fortunate to have a place in the city where we can go to educate ourselves on fascinating animals in a safe setting. My family enjoys seeing the animals and riding the train.

The city in which I was born and raised didn’t have a zoo. It wasn’t until my adult years when we relocated our young family to Saskatoon, that we discovered the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo. As a family, we enjoyed many a day there, enjoying the antics of the animals, having relaxing picnics in the park, and spending quality time together.
As citizens of Saskatoon, we are so fortunate to have the Forestry Farm Park and Zoo. From its humble beginnings many years ago to the beautiful facility we have to this day, it has been the hard work and dedication of staff and volunteers who have made it happen. As a retired teacher, I am especially proud of our Education Program. Our knowledgeable and dedicated Educators develop and deliver programs that are second to none, actively providing quality education programs on-site at the Zoo, and off-site as well. From Story Time at the Zoo for pre-schoolers, to curriculum-based programs for K-12 students, to visiting seniors’ residences, they develop and tailor programs in wildlife and conservation for all ages and stages of life. It is truly an honour and a privilege to serve on the Board of Directors of the Saskatoon Zoo Society.

Born and raised in Saskatoon, I have been fortunate to spend time at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo throughout my life; as a student attending tours and education session and as an adult attending weddings, reunions, and other family outings/events. I joined the Saskatoon Zoo Society Board in September 2018 to contribute towards local community impact through education and awareness programming around wildlife and conservation. In my daily life I am a Human Resources Manager with Federated Co-operatives Limited.

My passion is connecting children to nature and nature to children. As an Early Childhood Educator connecting with the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo was one way to follow my passion. Education of our youngest citizens in nature and conservation is one way to ensure we all have natural places to enjoy.
The high quality of education and programs of the Saskatoon Zoo Society plays an important role in educating others in wildlife, nature and conservation.
