Nick Laursen Bio

Background

Nick joined the Saskatoon Zoo Society as a volunteer in June of 2015. His infectious smile and work ethic was obvious from the beginning. Nick was passionate about his volunteer duties and was hoping that someday it would lead him to a zookeeper position at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo.

Sage the Burrowing Owl

Nick was a dedicated interpreter with Sage the Burrowing Owl. He spent numerous weeks socializing with Sage as she was one of the favourite animal ambassadors for the Saskatoon Zoo Society. Nick was ever so gracious when talking to the public about the animals with which he had spent so much time.

Kinsmen Express Train

In the summer of 2018, he was hired on to drive the Kinsmen Express Train in the Zoo. His booming voice could be heard throughout the facility, but this was fantastic for all the people that always stated they couldn’t hear our train drivers! Nick’s passion for learning about wildlife was evident as he always came to work with new facts to share with the public on his interpretive tours. He was also a great asset when it came to training new staff at the beginning of the season. He was steady and reliable when teaching others to drive and memorize their scripts. The Kinsmen Express Train will definitely be different without Nick’s zeal and dedication.

We Miss You Nick

We will miss seeing Nick out at the Zoo every year. His enthusiasm and passion for animals was hard to beat. Not only did he work for us, but also volunteered and worked for the Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Most of what Nick did focused on animals and nature. We offer our sincere condolences to Nick’s family and friends. Nick, we will miss you.
